The Joslyn Castle Neighborhood Association is committed to connecting neighbors with valuable community resources throughout Omaha. Below is a list of organizations, programs, and services that may be helpful to residents and families in our neighborhood.

Food Assistance & Community Support

Food Bank for the Heartland

Provides food assistance through partner pantries, mobile food distribution, SNAP outreach, and community programs throughout Nebraska and western Iowa.

 

Heart Ministry Center

Offers one of Omaha’s largest food pantries along with free healthcare services, mental health support, job training, and family assistance programs.

 

Heartland Hope Mission

Provides emergency food, clothing assistance, hygiene items, disaster relief support, and family resource services.

 

Catholic Charities of Omaha

Offers food pantries, housing support, immigration services, senior assistance, parenting programs, and emergency services for individuals and families.

 

Together Omaha

Provides food pantry services, employment readiness programs, housing support, and workforce development assistance.

 

Healthcare & Mental Health Resources

 

Kountze Commons Community Outreach Center

Provides integrated healthcare services including medical care, behavioral health support, free pharmacy assistance, and food pantry services.

Compassionate Minds Therapy

Offers counseling and mental health services for individuals and families in the Omaha area.

Nebraska 211

Connects residents to health services, food assistance, housing help, utility support, crisis services, mental health service, transportation, seniors services, family support resources and community programs across Nebraska.

Libraries & Education

 

Omaha Public Library

Neighborhood library branches across Omaha offer free educational resources, technology access, children’s programming, and community events.

 

Housing & Utility Assistance

Open Door Mission

Provides emergency shelter, food assistance, addiction recovery programs, career services, and homeless outreach programs.

Metropolitan Utilities District

Offers utility assistance programs and payment support resources for qualifying households.

Omaha Public Power District

Provides energy assistance programs, outage information, and payment assistance resources.

Senior & Family Resources

 

A Place at Home

Provides senior care resources, home care assistance, caregiver support, and aging-in-place services.

Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging

Supports seniors with transportation, meal programs, caregiver support, and wellness services.

Community & Neighborhood Support

City Sprouts

Offers community gardens, local food access, educational programming, and free pantry/fridge resources for residents. Community members on Reddit frequently recommend City Sprouts as a valuable neighborhood resource.

Omaha Community & City Resources

The Joslyn Castle Neighborhood Association encourages residents to stay informed about city services, neighborhood programs, and community resources available throughout Omaha.

 

Trash, Recycling & Yard Waste

Omaha Wasteline

Omaha’s official solid waste and recycling program provides:

  • Trash collection schedules

  • Recycling pickup calendars

  • Yard waste information

  • Spring and fall cleanup events

  • Bulky item disposal information

  • Recycling drop-off locations

Recycling in Omaha is collected every other week using single-stream recycling carts.

Recycling Drop-Off Locations

The City of Omaha offers several recycling drop-off sites for glass, cardboard, plastics, paper, and metal recycling throughout the city.

River City Recycling Center

Provides recycling and disposal services for Omaha residents and contractors.

Yard Waste Collection .Residents may use paper yard waste bags and brush bundles during seasonal collection periods. Omaha also provides special spring and fall yard waste collection weeks.

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal

Under The Sink Hazardous Waste Facility

Douglas and Sarpy County residents can safely dispose of:

  • Paint

  • Chemicals

  • Batteries

  • Automotive fluids

  • Household cleaners

  • Other hazardous materials
